Jewelry care guide

A set of jewelry care rules created by the PREMIÈRE jewelry house, which has been operating for more than two decades, will help not only to maintain the aesthetic beauty of jewelry, but also to protect it from mechanical damage. The jewelry house suggests following a few basic rules that apply to all jewelry:

· Take them off when going to bed, to the gym, swimming pool;
· Before swimming in the sea, lake or river, you should also take off your jewelry. Cold water shrinks the size of your fingers, so you can lose rings. Sea waves can imperceptibly wash away chains, earrings;
· Do not wear jewelry while cleaning the house or doing outdoor work: chemicals, rough earth or work tools can irreparably damage the surface of the products or stones ;
· Use body lotions, sun creams after removing jewelry, because body care products can remain on jewelry, cover them with an opaque film, then the jewelry will lose its shine, it will look like it has been worn.
· If, however, dirt has accumulated in the hard-to-reach cavities of the jewelry or under the stones, do not clean them with hard and/or pointed tools in any way, in which case it is better to bring them to a professional workshop.
· Store jewelry in individual jewelry boxes, bags, or a larger jewelry box with separate compartments. It is important that the stored products do not touch each other - this way you will protect them from scratching, color changes due to mutual reactions .
· You can restore the shine of jewelry at home in the following way: dissolve a little neutral soap in lukewarm water, wet a soft toothbrush and gently clean the products with it. You will achieve a stronger effect if you polish the jewelry afterwards with a special polishing cloth.

Protect the jewelery from moisture

Bijoux is often more impressive than high jewelry. However, costume jewelry wears out faster and scratches more easily. Water is the most damaging to jewelry, especially if it contains chlorine or salt.

Be sure to take off your jewelry before swimming in the lake, sea, river or pool in the summer, so it is easier to preserve its color and shine. Remove jewelry before taking a shower or bath. Do not keep jewelry in the bathroom. And, of course, protect them from any mechanical damage, because jewelry made of non-precious metals is beyond repair.

Silver jewelry blackens naturally

It's no secret that silver can oxidize (blacken) over time - that's its character. Silver jewelry becomes even more vulnerable during the summer: sweat, chlorine and humidity cause silver to turn black. Personal care products, including sunscreen and perfume, also oxidize silver. It can darken even if it is stored with gold jewelry or left in a drawer for a long time.

Remove silver jewelry before exercising. Also, be sure to take them off before swimming in the summer, especially in the sea or pool. Do not keep silverware in the bathroom either.

Today, some jewelry is silver-plated and covered with rhodium, thus protecting it from oxidation and rapid wear. Also, in places where handmade jewelry is sold, you can find immediately oxidized artistic jewelry, which is created specifically for this look and is considered an advantage. Do not clean such jewelry with special chemical means.

Take care of gold and platinum jewelry as well

Platinum jewelry is the most scratch resistant, giving it an edge over other jewelry. However, platinum jewelry, especially non-massive ones, can lose its shape, bend when carrying heavy objects, squeeze in the doorway, etc. Protect such jewelry from mechanical damage.

Gold is a precious metal that also has a high resistance to time and external influences, but the surface of gold products is quite soft, especially if the gold is of a higher quality, so protect them from scratching.

You can immediately choose rings with a rough, rough surface - they will look original and do not require so much maintenance.

One of the oldest, most complex and original solutions for gold decoration is the use of jewelry gold enamel: it tastefully covers the surface of the gold product, and the enamel is scratch-resistant and does not lose its color over time.

Usually, these precious metals are inlaid with various precious stones. It would be a good idea to have your jewelry like this professionally cleaned and renewed every year, but do not use sharp tools to clean the stones that hold the stones - you can dislodge them and lose them later.

Caring for diamonds is also important

Diamonds are exceptionally strong, scratch-resistant and retain their brilliance for a long time. But they are not indestructible. Diamonds can be split by a sudden impact, loosened or lost due to a weakened setting, and can be damaged by contact with other diamonds. Wear diamonds with care. Store them in padded boxes or soft bags, separate from other jewelry. Clean jewelry with a lint-free cloth or warm water, soap, and a soft toothbrush. It is also possible to briefly immerse the diamond in a special cleaning solution. In order for your jewelry to remain beautiful for a long time, periodically take your diamond jewelry to a jeweler so that he can clean the diamond and check the quality of the stone in the piece.

At least once every 2-3 years, depending on the intensity of wear, the jewelry should be taken to a professional jeweler - he will update and fix it. This way, the jewelry will always look new, shiny and vibrant. NOTE: try to perform the maintenance services of the items at the place where you purchase them, because only those who made the jewelry will know all the important nuances and will be able to bear the responsibility for the service.
